Film Screenings

Earthmovies organises free-entry film screening events in Glasgow to raise awareness about environmental issues and related subjects. We have shown award-winning films from all over the world, often even Scottish film premieres! Each screening is followed by a discussion with experts on the subjects. In the past we also had film directors and producers present for the discussion. Moreover there is usually live music entertainment after the screening. Did we mention it's all for free?! Come along and check out our next event! You can join our mailing list to be sure not to miss out.

On the 16th of December we showed our own production the award winning 'Windfall Island' at the CCA in Glasgow. The film is about a controversial windfarm to be built on Shetland which is met by resistance by local residents. Afterwards we had a lively discussion about the pros and cons of onshore windfarm developments and renewable energy in general in Scotland. You can look at the photos from the event on our facebook page here. You can watch the trailer here..

On the 25th of November we showed the film 'Blood in the Mobile' at Stereo in Glasgow. About 50 people came along and we were glad to see so many stay for the discussion with Kirndeep Kaur from Amnesty International Scotland. To finish this inspring night off we had Tom Spirals and his friends performing. You can have a look at the photos from the event here. Another night to remember! Here you can watch the trailer for the film...

It was another fantastic Earthmovies night showing the award-winning film 'Heart of Sky - Heart of Earth' about the struggle of Mayan indigenous people to safe their environment, their culture and sometimes even their life. It was a great turnout with more than 60 people coming along.

Kaspar Hensel performed an uplifting mix of Ska and Calypso with trumpet and loops before the film started. After the film there was a discussion with Vanessa Smer Barreto from Mexico and her friend Antonio. Later there was more musical entertainment by the brilliant Ruminate playing world music tunes which then merged into a Capoeira performance by Cordao de Ouro - Glasgow.

So there was lots happening! We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did and hopefully see you next time again. Have a look at photos from the event here and watch the video of the night here. And below the official film trailer...

On Monday the 3rd of February 2014 we proudly showed 'Chasing Ice' at the Centre of Contemporary Arts in Glasgow. The film is beautifully shot and thought-provoking at the same time, highlighting the urgency to act to tackle climate change.

It was a full-house at the downstairs cinema at the CCA with more than 70 people in the audience. The screening was followed by a panel discussion about climate change from a Scottish perspective with MSP Patrick Harvie from the Scottish Green Party as well as Barry Dalgleish from Greenpeace in Scotland. We got some really positive and encouraging feedback from the screening. You can have a look at the photos of the event on our Facebook photo album.

On the 29th of October 2013 we showed the film 'Gasland Part 2' in Glasgow. All the efforts to promote the free screening paid-off and about 80 people attended that evening which we see as a great success! - Not only to raise awareness about fracking thourgh the film and panel discussion but also in bringing the community together. Thanks to everybody who came along! Especially film producer Deborah Wallace who came all the way from the US to be present as a guest speaker at this and other screenings in England and Scotland.
