Wangari Mathai, also know as the 'Tree Mother', started a women's movement of simple planting trees in deforestated terrains in Kenya. This soon became a strong civil initiative, leading to deep transformation withing Kenia's political and social system.
Being colonized by Britain, Kenya was under their regime. Planting trees became a foundation, called 'The Green Belt Movement'. It brought back freedom to citizens of this country and made protection of environment a political responsibility.

The powerful story of life and commitment of Wangari Mathai is an example of a struggle towards a true democracy and saving both the environment and traditional communities.
